Lovely day at the market, with both Lido and Ee Forest selling. These are two of my favourites so it was great to see them go to a good home; plus it's an incentive to get painting some replacements! Had a great stall buddy in the shape of the very talented Shelly Berry, plus a lovely stall neighbour who was selling her Fairy Treasures.
At Merton Abbey Mills again tomorrow, Sunday 26 October. I'll be with this lady: www.shellyberryoriginal.co.uk/
Hope to see some of you there :)
Over summer a small but dedicated band of Stanley Spencer fans paid a visit to Cookham, famously his birthplace and inspiration. We started off in a pub, then made our way to the small but packed Stanley Spencer Gallery, where we were impressed not only by the various yet unified nature of Spencer's vision, but also by the passion and knowledge of the gallery staff, all of whom are volunteers. For my money, Spencer is simply one of the best English painters of the first half of the Twentieth Century. The exhibition also highlighted what an outstanding draftsman he is. After the gallery we had lunch in another fine pub (well-known to Spencer!) and rounded off the day with the Cookham walk. Highly recommended as a day out!
